Texas/New Mexico Stateline | I usually end up just contracting with a local elevator, and since I am a small fry, it isn't too bad if I can't produce the grain. They will let me carry the contract to the next year. But I suspect any day now they will stop doing that unless I fork over the margin money. (if necessary) I think you guys are right, that a person can't spend too much energy on marketing, for the small rewards it offers. I am just looking for every edge I can take.
I don't ever graze wheat because I am all no-till dryland, but if we have a good fall and get wheat in early, lots of guys pasture wheat down here. And there is always cattle on irrigated wheat here. |
