Yes, I agree that at todays prices where we are putting on $20-$100/acre it would seem that you would want to be spot on. But let's face the fact that soil tests, agronomists recommendations, and unknown factors like weather will certainly vary by more than 10%. So if my application rates vary by that amount, who knows, maybe I'll be better off than if I had hit my target rate right on. Sometimes I think it is better to err on the side of simplicity. No sense in getting all lathered up over the unknown. Calibrate as you apply, and things will even out.
