Ashburn, GA, (very close to Heaven!) | - Top dressing is essential in virtually any wheat production area of the country (subject to correction). It may be the difference between 25 bushels per acre of poor test weight wheat and 70 bushels per acre of good test weight wheat. Getting the N to the crop will also minimize late winter and early spring weed competition, contributing to crop purity and yield as well.
- What kind of stand do you have? What is the variety, and how well does it typically tiller? Is it prone to lodging?
- What state are you in? What are the "standard" N, P, K recommendations for your production area?
- What is the yield capacity of your field?
- How much P and K have you put out the last two years? How much have you removed from yield?
- Are you growing wheat in silt, clay, loam, "gumbo", or sand? Or what combination?
