Subject: Re: Ortho fertilizers

We use starter in no-till just to have the ortho available right with the seed with the thoughts of getting good development and plant health early with the colder soils especially if only poly are avaliable, but just using starter is not the only reason for banding in row but mainly for the micronutrients, K and anything else that may be deficient. We have had good standing pop where we were shooting for and we put the liquid on the seed directly behind the openers. Loading is not that big of deal because we have saddle tanks on the tractor able to carry 600 gallons, so we just hook and let the fertilizer fill while we load seed. We noticed plant health difference and the yeild was lower were we run out on some fields just to finish a pass. We did a side by side comparasin had same amount n applied but only have half the plot with starter and half without and there was a big noticeable difference. I guess the point to all this is mainly to correct any diffenciencies in the field for good soil balance, good luck.
