I would be fine without them now-but what if corn goes back to $3?
Also, my first couple years farming they really helped. I know everyone says govt payments hurt the little guy and help the large farmers but starting on a shoestring budget it was really helpful back then...helped me get some junk equipment to at least cut custom costs.
