What does Gov payments have to do with what the cosumer pays at the grocery store?

Gosh, I don't know, ask someone in eastern Europe or Africa what having a healthy ag system that is able almost constantly produce more than we need to feed ourselves, even in the worst crop disaster years.

Should we pay a policeman even when he has no bad guy to chase ? Should we pay the military to train and maintain equipment on the chance we might need them, even when they have no war to fight ?
Should we pay our ag system a little to keep the reserve capacity to produce more food than we need in a good crop year, Just on the chance we or one of our allies might need the food ?? Naa, let em starve while we spend a few years rebuilding our ag system so we can produce more.

There are a lot of people alive in this world, that lived on surplus American grain when they cut back on their own ag systems via WW2

Kind of hard to break the American, non farm public of the concept of not having a subsidy driven cheap food policy, when they have known nothing but cheap surplus food, back through their grand or great grand parents. They think it is a birth right that will go on no matter what they do to the US ag system. ;-)
