My ground was only frozen for a couple of days around christmas. After rainfall in january it is dry enough now and in ideal planting condition. So why wait? In fact most of our spring wheat varieties are frost resistant enough for the local conditions and should be preferred to winter wheat from december on. (e.g. after a late sugar beet harvest) My reason to grow a spring crop on that particular field is a severe rabbit problem. The field is completely enclosed by landfills, abandoned industry sites and houses/gardens, no chance to eliminate the critters.
