SE ND | I guess my thoughts go inline with Hay Wilson. We have heavy soils, cec'c of 24-31 and also some high ph's of 7.5-8. In our situation banding is more ideal....in my mind anyway.. because the soils are very tight and they do not like to give up nutrients. Therefore if it is in a band closer to the row it is more available for the plant because it can get to it more readily. We have been running some of the p and k in the row as starter which has worked well and we also sidedress some. Again if you broadcast and it works, which it does in alot of conditions stick with it. I would really like to be strip tilling and banding the fertilizer about 4-5 inches below the row but nobody can seem to make a strip till unit work in 22inch rows on corn ground... might have to make a switch to 30's i guess. | |
