Subject: Re: Does straw interfer with no til beans?

Southwest Missouri
The last few years we baled the straw that goes through the combine. We do not mow the stubble or cut extra low with the combine.

Even when we spread the straw, (it was only a few feet) it just looks like too much for our JD750s to handle. My guess is that the value of the straw in 4x4x8s is at best a break even proposition, at best. We would like to leave the baler in the shed because we are part timers and we have enough to do combining and then spreading fertilizer and then drilling beans. Baling and then hauling is quite a bit to do.

I guess we need to experiment, but we KNOW (well, strongly suspicion) we will get a good stand if we bale, and I would hate to risk a crop of $13 beans. Any suggestions?
