Subject: RE: Worst models of tractors/combines by company

I keep reading many complaints about the JD 1010 and 2010 with their sleeves part of the deck on top the block. And there are those with some experience with them that said they had virtually no brakes, even when new.

Then there are some 70 series Case that sell cheap, but make up for it in transmission and rear end repairs.

I spent all afternoon swapping 12.4-42 for the 18.4-34 on my 4020, still can't get the wheel centers closer than 64", but at least now there will be almost 7" outside the tires in 30" rows carrying a three point sprayer. Better than the 3" with the 18.4s.

All the while the legendary 4020 with a gas engine has the reputation for being a gas hog. That it is, but the IH Hydros were even worse at using gas. The reputation lets the gas 4020 sell for enough less than a diesel that I can buy gas for about a decade on the difference, and I know how to tune a gas engine.
