Subject: Re: Chloride on winter wheat

Coldwater, Michigan
Most Chloride on wheat comes from Murate of Potash. This is included in starter fertilizers for wheat that include potash (0-0-60 KCL). If no starter was used then some often include potash while topdressing with urea, or ammonium nitrate. Chloride has been shown to be very effective for control of some diseases in wheat. While we often don't like to see chloride (salt content) in starters that come in direct contact with the seed, chloride is actually a good thing for many plants.
