I guess it depends if drum threads are the wide ones or the narrow ones, but if it had standard pipe threads you could just buy a nut and put on the bottom side of the lid. I looked in Mcmaster and there's nothing to fit 2 1/4" anyhow. Perhaps you could cut the threaded portion out of the tops of some plastic barrels. I'm not a huge fan of welded plastic.
