Subject: Foliar feed in Alfalfa

Had a young guy call me yesterday. He is going to be seeding 40 acres of Alfalfa/Ograss mix this fall, already has 10 acres across the road from my Dad. Local company in town is trying to sell him a foliar feed package, I'm assuming it's similar to a Nature's package, don't know for sure. Apply after each cutting. Claiming he can do the full fertilization program for $30 bucks an acre, yes, $31 bucks. My nose says, no way. However, I've seen enough stuff on foliar feeding that I'm tempted to do a small area and keep soil and tissue tests of the field seperate and do some analysis. It's sure not a bargain if you drive soil levels down, and his ground isn't going to be very high in the first place. Anybody have any experience.
