Swift Current, Sask | It was about 25-27 C or 75-80 F down there, but they had alot of air moving through there (to help with the salt/dust in the air as well as vehicle fumes from diesel or propane power). It was still warm though.
It was about a 12 ft cut that they were making. There is potash above and below the cut, but more clay and salt. They try to take the best potash, but they need to leave some so that the clay layers that are between the potash don't separate (like you saw in some of the pics).
They said they wanted the walls to be that way, then they could tell if they were mining correctly. If the walls weren't crumbling in one spot, they knew that there would be problems somewhere else in the mine. Something else would have to take the pressure, and would be a major hazard. | |
