Ron, to get an accurate germ sample, at least for me, the sample needs to be taken while bagging the soybeans. Then the sample is sent in to be tested. (which takes 7-10 days if sent in, less if done in house.) Most companies tag at the same time they bag so they/we have always used 90% as a safe tag level and if they come in lower then they are retagged, but almost always they come in higher. This year is an exception. It would be nice to tag at the exact test level but it's kind of hard to do. I always tell my customers what the actual germ is when they get their seed. Of course you have to remember that we are a very small company and I'm the one dealing with the customers so it's possible for me to do that. Larger companies probably couldn't or wouldn't do that easily.
