Subject: RE: Pioneer newsletter about corn populations.

Purdueville, IL
I've heard this publication was for absolutely perfect growing conditions with high corn prices, with little adjustment for other inputs. Basically adjust your rate to what you are comfortable with, the high rates you should bump to the highest you are comfortable with. I had 32B83 last year that had a pounding 3" rain after I planted 34,000. Had some trouble breaking through the crust like everything else, ended with 27-32K harvest pop, was 2nd best yield out of 25 hybrids, DK & Pioneer in field not plot. I could tell it was fixed ear and wished I had planted thicker, planting 36K this year and hope I don't get that pounding rain 8 hours after its planted!

This being said, I think with these prices everybody should bump pops 5% at least no matter what hybrid, there is enough data to show you why.

BTY typical seeding rate 30-32K

EDIT-The post before mine came through before I finished typing mine, I agree and it sums up what I why trying to say in as little of words, use population for hybrids and ground type.....
