Subject: Re: Non Coated Alfalfa Seed

Hard seed is somthing that I conceder a big deal. Here we flood irragate and uslly dont water a new seeding for the second time for three weeks or so after the first irragation. The problem is that everything BUT the hard seed will germatate after three or four days then follow the mositure down with there roots, hard seed will sometimes take a week or so for it to germanate and runs out of avilible mositure. The guys with pivots dont have this problem by applying a "drink" every few days to help with mositure, but if we re-flood a feild too soon it will turn the young hay yellow and cause some damping off problems. Most of the best seed comes from Califorina, (almost perfect growing conditions) and the seed that comes from Id or Montana has the higest percentage of hard seed. (mother natures work)
