Subject: RE: sunflower planting

We have no close market for sunflowers in this area, so to sell commercially, I have to arrange trucking several states away. Am planting some for two reasons. First, the field in question, is rented and the landlord does not want any corn around his house, so I have a rotational void to fill. Second reason is simply that I am trying to learn about making some veg oil so I can be ahead of the curve if diesel becomes even more expensive or scarce.
These will be full season sunflowers, and have checked different agronmy recommendations from State universities and have a lot of conflicting info I'm trying to get straightened out on. Thanks for all of your replies and if anyone who grows flowers regularly, wouldn't mind e mailing back and forth a bit , please let me know. My address is in my profile.
