EPC to consider banning manure on frozen ground
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Iowa Environmental Protection Commission (EPC), reacting to reports of increased ammonia levels in some Iowa rivers after a cold, snowy winter, decided to discuss banning application of livestock manure on frozen ground at its next meeting in May. A motion to ban manure applications on frozen ground was introduced late in the meeting by Commissioner Henry Marquard and was seconded by Commissioner Susan Heathcote. Chairman Dave Petty asked that they take the time to discuss the motion. The discussion was scheduled for the EPC's next monthly meeting, scheduled for May 13 in Urbandale.
