Subject: RE: New case ih touchscreen monitor

There is no component available for third-party software to read CNH planter data.   We have had customers with those planters for two years that are very frustrated.

Deere made a component available for third-party software companies to read/write GS2 data about the time the GS2 hardware was released.   Not many companies could make the resource commitment to integrate it into their software, but the component was available.  And that's a big improvement over where they were with third-party support for the GS1.

Agco made a third-party software component available for their new monitors before the monitors were in the field.

I agree... it will likely always be an iron-bender software package that takes full advantage of their hardware, and it makes sense that in-house software will have support for new features before third-party software... but it shouldn't be for more than about six months.  For the user that wants a single package that works across brands, or that goes well beyond prescision ag, most hardware companies now provide sufficient third-party support to make their hardware a viable option.   Ag Leader does.   AFS doesn't.
