Subject: Re: Welding air tank advice.

Ethridge, TN
I might just be paranoid since we just about had a serious accident after doing what was thought to be a simple repair to an air tank off a semi truck. Welded a crack up on a seam, had totally cleaned it, ground it, and welded it with wire welder. All looked really good, nice flow to the weld, just decided to pressure check the tank before putting it back on the truck. You know, use some soap to check for any other leaks. Well at about 80#, that tank opened up with a loud "boom" along one side of the weld. We don't weld air tanks anymore. Throw the damn things in the junk and replace them. Like I said, it's probably me just being paranoid. If I had been a little closer to that one to check for leaks, they would be calling me "lefty" now.
