Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND
With a solid roller to push rocks into the ground and flatten ridges/humps,there is always the danger of packing the soil too hard over the seed if you roll them after seeding. We suspected that the JD 750 openers would not disturb the soil enough to bring rocks back up and cause ridges,so we rolled our field pea and soybean fields first, then seeded. The single disc opener leaves an inch of soft tilled soil in the seed row, which removed any packing done with the roller. Seems to have worked good, pea yields were great and no rocks in the combine. Will get to try the beans in two weeks. This is in long term(12 years) notill soil.
