Here are the recommendations I gathered on mainly german sites:
- You should filter your oil with a max 2 µ (micrometer) filter to be really safe.
- Most filter with 5 to 10 µ and then wonder why either their injectcton pump or their filters get clogged.
- Check with Fleetguard ( www.fleetguard.com ) for a fuel filter that they use for diesel pumps at gas stations when filtering warm oil.
- If you want to really build your own filter, you have to make sure that you have a tight enough filter (maybe 2 to 3 layers crossed) and generously dimension your filtering surface, so that the flow is as slow as possible.
- Prefiltering and letting the oil stay in a recipient for say a week before filtering helps as some of the dirt settles or comes up.

Lady stockings are definitely not tight enough to filter the oil, only to preflter it for dirt.
