One horsepower is 745 watts, or one kilowatt is 1.34 horsepower. So 15 horsepower is 11.2 kw. When you add up starting current and line losses and a little cushion you are probably looking at doubling the KW rating of the genset needed to run the motor. Three phase power sure makes more sense when running any kind of big motor. I am sure the resident electrial engineers will showup and give us the real answers....
