Subject: RE: Question on the front end

Actually the MFD tires may be in a ratio from approximately 3% lag to 3% lead. It is very rare to achieve a tire sizecombination where the interaxle ratio is precisely 1:1. This doesn't matter; field slippage is enough to compensate for this within reason. Installing smaller sized MFD tires without changing to the appropriate rear tires is out of range. Sometimes installing brand-new high-lug profile MFD tires in combo with worn-out rear tires results in too much "lead" on the front, culminating in the dreaded "power-hop."

The MFD is plenty strong enough to spin the tires; however, what happens is that the standard-equipment limited-slip differential reads the excessive "push" on the front end (caused by tires too small) and
attempts to equalize the torque as much as possible. Resulting in wiped-out side gears & spider gears and limited-slip clutches, at a minimum.

These Eaton/Dana axles have generally held up well on Magnums. Far better than the ZF axles we had on the 3594 at any rate. My advise is that you should grease the king pin bearings daily while parked.... and even more often if you are actually using the tractor :)
