I was thinking of replacing my ears on my 1480 but they didn't turn out to be the problem. Anyways mine have the wear plates with hardened weld on the front. They seem to last well. The stewart steel front looks excellent but they are $1800.- Canadian. If you had to change the ears on a 1480 which has 4 it would be more than $2100.- or go with 2 which supposedly makes it feed better and save money. I would definitely put the wear plates on if only the fronts are worn. My 2 cents.
