Subject: RE: Educate me in Drill Bits

Macon, IL
I am no expert but the bits you use for wood are completely different than you would use for metal.

Not to sound demeaning but "Buffalo"-if it is the company I am thinking of is a Harbor Freight/Cummins Tools brand-and usually the ultra cheap stuff. So even if you have a bit for steel it may go dull very fast.

Whatever you are doing I wouldn't use the bits I keep for wood on metal. If this is a 1 off project go buy a single bit (or small set) of bits made for steel. If you are drilling really tough stuff get carbide tipped-they are not cheap but if you know the size you can get a single bit and not break the bank. I think a 1/4 inch carbide tipped bit is usually around $4-$6.
