NW Washington | All, good advise but I'll add my two cents worth. When drilling steel make a habit of using a small bit like about 3/16" first to drill a pilot hole and then enlarge the hole to the size you need. Use a good cutting fluid on the bit or tap, something like "Tap Magic", and you will be amazed at how much better things go. The Black&Decker "Bullet point" bits make great pilot drills. They the don't skid from the center punch mark and they drill fast and easy. Down side is they are almost impossible to sharpen, buy a few 3/16 or 5/32 b B&D's and toss them when they are dull. Next drill holes for bolts a 32nd or 64th larger than the bolt size. | |
