How sharp are the knife sections?. In some crops where the straw is tough and the sections are dull the knife will stall trying to drag the crop stems through the guards rather than a clean cut. Are the hold down clips adjusted down enough?. If the oil filters are old it is well worth changing them as this will help oil flow in my experience. You can adjust the relief valve up to the recomended limits in the book, this too will help in tough crops , just don't get too keen.
