Subject: Re: Spreader bridging problem

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

With respect to the turkey litter which we haul/spread....and which runs anywhere from extremely dry to extremely wet.........

We have found that belts less than about 40 inches are just not useable. Even then the really dry stuff will just not come out efficiently.

All of our hauling equip including spreader are lined with plastic.......best source for us has been ???? (name escapes me right now, but he is located in Ankeny, IA, and ships all over).........so, even with the plastic, still have trouble sometimes.

We have tried the slip plate, spraying vegetable oil on the plastic, spraying wax on the plastic, etc.

The best result has been just watching how the haulers were loaded------ a couple of buckets of wet in the front on the bottom, and that seems to move the rest enough to keep bridging at bay........so, when we load out of wet piles, we keep back enough to use later.....a little hassle, but less than poking a load to make it move.

Spraying wax on the plastic seemed to work the next best.....using the power washer to put it on once per day seemed to be the best........took less time than the poking routine.

If you have the narrow V like appears to be in the drawing....which would translate into a narrow belt, say, less than 36 inches........if the picture is proportional at all......you might be destined for problems no matter what you do.

The vibrators might be the ticket------never used them, was warned against them......but have never been around them so I don't know first hand that the warnings were appropriate.
