northeastern Ohio | I have one in a 1996 Chevy single axle truck with the 6 speed transmission. It replaced a 1978 C65 with a 366 gasser and 5 speed trannie. I'm very happy with the CAT engine. As others have said, it is not as snappy as a big CAT, but has a lot of low end torque for it's size. The old 78 would be down to 15 mph on some of these hills when loaded and the 96 zips right up the same hills with the same load at 35-40 mph. It sure saves a lot of shifting!!!
We did have to put a new camshaft in it at 225,000 miles and a new turbo at 230,000 miles. How many miles does yours have on it? | |
