Well size did seem to make a difference yes <Grin> I agree that true suction hose is better as its will remain flexible and generally just last longer. Hold it down with conduit clamps every 2-3 ft or so ( bolting on to a knife guard ) keeps it in place and works nicely. Individually cut sections would require more clamps .
