Yeah, you'd be out the pilot point, if you just had to have it, but I'm a tightwad, so that's what I'd do. :) We were mounting a 'new' toolbox on our service trailer today, and my 9/16" bit wouldn't cut, and I sharpened it TWICE in my Drill Doctor, with absolutely no luck. First time I'd used the 'large drill chuck' with it, so maybe it's gommicked up or something, but it sure didn't sharpen. Anyway, a friend of the family who has a sort of a machine shop (he mostly builds and rebuilds semi trailers) stopped by, and sharpened it for me, freehand, on the bench grinder. Cut like a dream. I've tried it about a thousand times before, with absolutely no luck. Gotta figure out why the Drill Dr. left me hanging, though.

Edit: just saw your Drill Dr. question, Ron. The little grinding wheel seems to hold up pretty well. I've had mine a couple of years now, and I don't do a lot of drilling, but the first day I had it, I sharpened every drill I had, up to 1/2". Took a couple of hours, and there were a couple that were broken, that I ground to about the right shape on the grinder, and sharpened, just to see if I could. Still haven't changed it. Maybe I should, but it still grinds. Now, the motor, on the other hand, leaves a little to be desired. It's about half the power it seems like it needs to be, especially on bits over about 3/8".
