Subject: RE: 750 drill mod's

Carbondale, KS
Ken's post pretty much takes care of it.

Just to reitterate:

1 - Disc's changed out when bevel is gone.

2 - Boots that aren't square should be changed - I really like the hardened boots.

3 - Very little slop in the closing arms - RK products makes the permanent fix for the problem.

4 - Closing wheel bearings - cheap design but a cheap fix. Put new seals in w/the new bearings. Again, cheap fix.

5 - Weight to the back will help keep that thing in the ground if it is tough - not much it won't plant thru. We've got liquid fertilizer tanks on the back of ours.

6 - If all the above is in good working order the one change i would offer is to change the firming wheel to the Case IH SDX firming wheel. Narrower width that allows the wheel to run in the bottom of the trench - firms the seed in the bottom of the furrow where the wider deere wheel won't. Words really can't express how much of an improvement in stands there is because of this change. Deere may have an updated wheel out now. It's an easy change - unbolt old and bolt on new.

This looks like a lot of stuff but some of these drills have seen a lot of use. These are really nice drills. Don't let the things that were listed in the responses scare you off.
