Subject: RE: Ear Corn

Centre county Pennsylvania, USA
Annual on-farm calibration for ear weight to #2 corn conversion may not be worth the extra work (here) because (on average) it doesn't seem to significantly differ from the Penn State conversion charts.

Test weight has never been an issue in our storage capacity or our corn market so I don't have any incentive for crunching TW numbers. I have heard that some folks get docked for TW below 54# but have never heard of anyone getting premium for any TW above that, we certainly have not. I don't recall ever getting docked for low TW, but admit I may have selective memory on that.

Aside from storage volume costs and TW docking thresholds, what additional value is there in TW information for corn production management ?
