I was taught to calculate acreage by chains. ½ mile = 40 chains, ¼mile = 20 chains. If your field is ½ X ¼ then multiply 40 X 20, and move the decimal point one place to the left, = 80acres. To convert feet to chains, there are 66 feet in one chain. 66 X 20 = 1320 feet.
