Subject: similar situation for our combine operator

When my wife found she had cancer in 99, a good friend had just retired from flying for TWA. He was a farm boy and still dabbled in it all these years between flights. He had taken early retirement because he got tired of looking in the phone book every morning to see where he was at.

He offered to run our combine to help out that first year and has been there ever since. He takes better care of it than I do when I run it on some weekends. Like your cart guy he's a vet who flew fighters in Nam. Between the military and pilot training he's taught us some useful things when it comes to walk arounds and inspections as well as getting out and taking breaks every couple hours.

We figure we're really lucky, he comes and drives when we need him, goes home when we don't, wants some weekends off for family functions. We found out that he spent 2 summers running a dirt scraper building a reservoir so now Charlie even puts him on the scraper when he's moving dirt.
