Green, you must've been reading my mind a couple days ago....I was thinking the EXACT same while cleaning the cab filter. I call the JD threaded stud method "hardware store engineering". It looks like something I would've come up with instead of some engineer getting paid up in the "5 figures". JD utilizes all the new clamp-on filter canisters just about everywhere on engines...but then they reverted to this Ace Hardware band-aid for the cab filter lid. Also-there is no real STOP to the filter cover. You can tighten it beyond what's needed. Our tractor was delivered from the factory with the lid cracked open where it had obviously been over-tightened. We ran with it duct-taped over for a couple weeks while dealer tried to get replacement lid. Yes, I did note this on my Customer Satisfaction form. |
