Pto horspower is pretty much the net horsepower that is left that is put to the ground after mechanical losses through the drivetrain. 80% transfer is considered the "norm".... As in if your dynoing somethign whether on the wheels or pto its should be 80% of rated engine horsepower... if its more all the better,,,, if its less (providing u didnt screw the test up somehow lol) there is something wrong along the way (ie. engine getting tired, slipping clutch, transmission trouble, etc) so if you have pto and really wanna know engine just take the rated pto hp / .8 = approx engine, kinda long winded but hope it helps, Ed
