Subject: Re: IVT fuel consumption -- Nebraska tractor tests

It's my understanding that the CVT from AGCO (Fendt) is supposed to be more efficient than a powershift. It is still a gear drive transmission, it just shifts very smoothly (hydraulically). Because the gear selected matches the power requirement, the CVT is claimed to have better fuel economy than quadshifts and powershifts. The Deere IVT does have a clutchpack, but that should not reduce efficiency that much. My experience with Deere promotion is, that when they claim to have tested the most efficient tractor ever, it means it was "their" most fuel efficient tractor, not the industry's most fuel efficient tractor. They didn't invent the IVT, maybe it's not so good?
