I dont know what varieties you are planting that would string in second gear. We are picking in second gear (4.8-5.0 MPH) with 9996 in 1100-1600 lb. cotton and it is not leaving anything. It is not stringing the cotton whatsoever. From my accounts there is no reason to pick in first gear unless you have a picker to 1000 acres of cotton, which definitely would not make the payments on a new 9996.
