Now, back in the days when the only way to make things not turn in the front axle was to buy and install a set of Warn locking hubs, then we had the discussion about whether running all summer long with the hubs turned out would be hard on u-joints and axle bearings because they sat there without turning and the road vibrations would conceivably pound flat spots in the needle, ball, and roller bearings. Some said that a guy should run with the hubs in for a day, every month or so and others claimed that it made no difference.



I can remember 1970s Jeep PU owners manuals suggested locking the hubs once a month and driving 50 miles with transfer case in 2WD to lube the front gears and etc.
