You will get really frustrated with the $50 drone, because it doesn't have GPS and is small. It's fun to play around with indoors, but don't expect to take it outside or take any good photos or video.

If the budget is tight, I wouldn't recommend going any lower than the DJI Phantom 3 standard ($380). But that is if you are looking to take pictures or video.

Once again, if it's simply a toy to crash around the living room, go for the $50. But it doesn't represent flying a full size drone at all. If you want to take pictures or video, go for the DJI Phantom 3 Standard (I would actually spend the extra for the advanced).
