Subject: some info YieldGuard VT

I remembered a post here a while back and that made me wonder just exactly what was different about VT. I didn't know anything more than what the big M's PR machine was telling me. What I found out in a nut shell is that nothing is different except the way the gene is inserted. The main difference is Monsanto is using round the marker gene in this conversion instead of a bacteria like they used to use. This imparts the round ready aspect into the plant with only one insertion instead of doing it seperately. Syngenta has always done this with Liberty in there corn borer trait and herculex uses Liberty in the same way. The technology is not new. The active protien is the same and how it effects the plant is the same. There shouldn't be any change in effectiveness. If it was different protien it would have to undergo the FDA approval process and our friends in Europe would probably take several years to approve it also. If this trait is restricted it will be only due to the new type "stacking" with round up.
