Have you been around the board much? This is the only topic I have seen that can get as contentious as politics and religion do on the forum page. You will probably get a range of yeas and nays, but in general no-till doesn't lead to compaction. The deep ripping might actually be adding a layer of compaction at the bottom of the tillage. This will mostly depend on your soil type. Ultimately that is what determines your compaction problems under no-till. Our soils are fairly sandy and we get lots of frost action during the winter. The only place we see any compaction is under conventional tillage. Our no-till soils get so mellow that it is like walking on a sponge when you walk across the field.
