Subject: Re: no-till vs. conventional

Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND
In my farm operation,no means NO. My land has not had ANY tillage operation since 93 and I have no compaction problems
Problem is that many areas, especially the corn belt, confuse direct seeding with no till. Tillage followed by DIRECT SEEDING,one or two crops later ,is in no way, No till . Conservation tillage and direct seeding yes,but not no till. It's a totally different deal concerning destruction of untilled soil structure, which takes 3-4 years minimum of no tillage to form.
What I see mostly as tillage, followed by direct seeding operates under a completely different set of rules.

I get really grumpy when I see someone doing a mixture of direct seeding rotated with tillage, calling it no till and blaming "no till" when it fails to work.
