Subject: Strip till and starter

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Paul,

Most of our strip till customers who are putting fertilizer down in the strip have taken the starter fertilizer off of the planter. That is one of the advantages of our system. You can put the 28% down one side and 10-34-0, your liquid above or any high P fertilizer right down the middle and mixed in. This method lets you use enough (say 12 gal/a) to be sure to do some good.

It works best in the spring but many put it down in fall also. I don't know how much if any loss of P there is over the winter if thoroughly in contact with soil.

This way you don't need to nurse starter when you plant - just put seed in the hopper and plant.
