When I was younger whenever we got a puncture wound my aunt would make a poulice (sp?) using ground flaxseed, & hot water. Put that over the wound & cover with a bandage & leave till it dries, usually overnight. As the flaxseed dries it would pull out the any infections in the puncture. It also worked to pull out splinters.
