| I believe your issue is due to your computer needing updates, which it is trying to download. The downloads are probably tying-up your connection while you're trying to do your own thing.
I would recommend taking your computer to a friend or relative's place who has high-speed internet. Get your computer connected to the internet and let it collect all the updates it needs. Once that is complete, you should be able to run your computer at home again.
