Subject: RE: desktop or laptop

DeKalb, IL
I think your eventual decision will come down to whether you will ever anticipate taking the computer with you. Just stay away from the bottom line units, regardless of brand. Not all desktops are superior to laptops: I work in an office part time where the owner finally 'had' to upgrade the aged computers a while back. Taking a friend with him to the big box for advice and counsel, he came away with a couple of name-brand units that specked out pretty decently and worked pretty well for a year or two, and were inexpensive. In researching that model for memory upgrade, I discovered that these desktops were equipped with laptop motherboards and the RAM was soldered in! So, shop carefully.

Back in my pc days, I had the best luck with Dells, and the company I worked for at that time also used them. Every manufacturer has ups and downs, but I think I'd still go there for a new pc. I would, however, shop the business outlet offerings to save some money.
